Mary Lynn D. Lenz
Chief Executive Officer
Mary Lynn D. Lenz assumed her position as President and Chief Executive Officer of Professional Business Bank in March 2009, and since that time has led Professional Business Bank through an historic national banking crisis, overseen the strategic repositioning of the bank's lending portfolio, and helped to strengthen the bank's financial position through the December 2010 merger with Pasadena-based California General Bank.
Ms. Lenz has more than 35 years of experience in commercial and community banking. Before taking her position at Professional Business Bank, Ms. Lenz served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Massachusetts-based Slade's Ferry Bancorp previous to the bank's acquisition by Independent Bank Corp. in 2008.
Prior to leading Slade's Ferry Bancorp, she was Executive Vice President of retail banking for Citizens Bank of Massachusetts, a wholly-owned subsidiary of $164 billion Royal Bank of Scotland. She also served for 10 years at Cleveland-based Key Corp in a variety of leadership roles in small business banking, mortgage banking, and retail banking.
Mary Lynn Lenz is a recognized and active leader in retail and commercial banking with a long track record of success in the banking industry. She is a two-time recipient of the "25 Most Powerful Women in Banking Award" by US Banker magazine. Ms. Lenz has served as Board Director and Legislative Committee Chairman for the Massachusetts Bankers Association as well as a delegate to the Community Bankers Council for the American Bankers Association.
Ms. Lenz has an established commitment to community leadership and philanthropic involvement. She currently sits on the Board of Directors, finance and marketing committees of Pasadena-based nonprofit MUSE/IQUE. She was Founder and Chairman for Leadership SouthCoast, a program that cultivates business and civic leadership throughout the South Coast region of Massachusetts. Ms. Lenz has held Board Director and Campaign Chair positions with United Way of Fall River and the American Heart Association. She has also served as Advisory Board Chairman to the Gabelli School of Business at Roger Williams University and as investment committee member for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Foundation. Her service also includes a position as Board Trustee for Saint Anne's Hospital in Fall River, and a volunteer and fundraiser for the Harris Foundation for Eating Disorders.
Recent accolades include finalist for the Pasadena Star-News "Jewels of Pasadena, Women of Distinction" Awards, nomination for the LA Business Journal 2011 "Women Making a Difference" Awards, a feature in Pasadena Magazine's "Women in Business" edition, and THE Magazine's annual edition of "50 Fabulous Women of Influence".
Ms. Lenz attended the State University of New York, College of Buffalo, and Niagara University.
John Nerland
President and Chief Banking Officer
Mr. Nerland joins Professional Business Bank with a 25-year portfolio of success in lending and business banking. Most recently, he served as President and CEO for Thousand Oaks, California-based California Oaks State Bank. There, he was instrumental in enhancing the credit quality of the bank's loan portfolio. He increased the value and size of the bank and spearheaded the $17.3M sale to California United Bank in December 2010. Prior to that, Mr. Nerland was President and CEO of Solano Bank, a De Novo bank based in Vacaville, CA and Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer of The Vintage Bank in Napa, CA. Mr. Nerland started his career with WestAmerica Bank. Nerland has a B.S. degree in Finance from Arizona State University and an M.B.A. in Marketing from San Francisco State University.
Robert A. Hunt
Senior Vice President, Director of Operations
Mr. Hunt was born and raised in Pasadena and brings 25 years of local banking experience to Professional Business Bank. Mr. Hunt began his career in 1978 with Security Pacific Bank,where he worked in operations and began his credit career. Mr. Hunt left Security Pacific in 1985 as a Vice President in Commercial Lending. He then moved to First Interstate Bank as a manager of several local banking offices, including their Pasadena main office. He was also District Sales Manager of the San Gabriel Valley during his time with First Interstate.
In 1994 Mr. Hunt was asked to manage the Los Angeles main office of Sanwa Bank, where he also headed up their International Operations Department. Mr. Hunt has also worked for Verdugo Banking Company and Community Bank in Pasadena until coming to Professional Business Bank in June 2001. Mr. Hunt has always been involved in the community, as the past Chairman of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses since 1990, and a member of the Board of Foothill Family Services in Pasadena.
Michael V. Tyminski
Chief Credit Officer
Mr. Tyminski has more than 30 years of experience in financial services with greatest concentration in the credit field. His experience and expertise covers a wide range, including credit risk management, middle-market corporate banking, and commercial real estate finance. Mr. Tyminski has served as a Chief Credit Officer of several southern California community banks including Wedbush Bank, in Los Angeles, and East West Bank, in Pasadena.
At City National Bank, headquartered in Los Angeles, Mr. Tyminski founded a business unit dedicated to serving the banking needs of the franchised quick service restaurant industry, and managed the Downtown Los Angeles Commercial Banking and Mortgage Warehouse Lending Groups. Prior to City National Bank, for 14-years Mr. Tyminski served in senior credit and corporate banking positions at Citibank including Division Credit Officer for the Western Region Commercial Real Estate Group. Mr. Tyminski began his career with National Bank of Detroit (JP Moran Chase) as a Commercial Loan Officer specializing in asset-based lending and problem loan management.
Mr. Tyminski received a BA in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and MBA from The University of Michigan.
Margie Christ
Senior Vice President, HR Director
Prior to joining Professional Business Bank, Ms. Christ was the Deputy Manager of Human Resources at City National Bank in downtown Los Angeles. She began her career with Security Pacific Bank and Bank of America as a Commercial/Business Banking Lending Manager.
After a short stint with KPMG in their Financial Services Practice, she re-joined Bank of America and managed a variety of interesting new banking initiatives, including an e-commerce solution for Business Banking customers and a private banking growth effort. These activities ultimately led her to the position of Human Resources Manager for Private Banking West at Bank of America, and then to City National.
Ms. Christ joined Professional Business Bank as Director of Human Resources in November of 2007. She graduated from University of California Irvine with a Bachelor's in Economics and lives in Pasadena.
